Every year, through the Honours and Awards Secretariat, the Ontario Government presents Volunteer Service Awards to people who volunteer their time to a single organization for several years. This is an important way to honour the thousands of Ontarians who generously contribute their time as volunteers across the province.
For the first time since 2002, Volunteer Resources nominated long-term FST volunteers to receive Ontario Volunteer Service awards. To ensure representation throughout the agency, we considered volunteers from a variety of programs who had not received prior FST or Ontario Volunteer Service awards.
Yesterday, Sharon Smith and I attended an inspiring Ontario Volunteer Awards Ceremony – one of 47 held across Ontario – at which 7 of our volunteers were honoured, along with volunteers from many other organizations throughout the city. All volunteers were awarded pins and personal certificates, and were treated to a reception and refreshments following the presentation. We were astounded to learn that the 204 volunteers honoured yesterday contributed over 2000 years’ worth of volunteer hours!
Congratulations to the following 2008 Ontario Volunteer Service Award recipients and thank you for your continuous years of commitment and dedicated service to Family Service Toronto:
