Subj. / Violations of Yezidis rights in Iraq
At first I would like to extend my greetings and respect, hoping that our case might meet with your kind attention regarding the flagrant violation towards the right of a peaceful society within one of the most crucial items of Human Rights which is the election right after long years of waiting. The Yezidi society has participated in Iraq and in the whole world with full power in the election process and tried to let it succeeded by all means and methods in order to gain as much as possible of the rights to enable the Yezidis to participate positively in the process of the political change in Iraq. The Kurdish Allied List was the first one for which the Yzidis voted and managed to get more than 50% of Nineveh Governorate votes. According to the statistics made by Yezidis Democratic Group and was published at Bahzani website in the Internet. The number of votes that the Kurdish Allied List got from the Yezidis in Nineveh Governorate were (108744) votes and we notified Mr. Ashraf Kazi while meeting him on 30/11/2005 to what might happen and conveyed the same idea to Mr. Jerome Hohman, the representative of US Consul in Mosul on 9/12/2005, just one week before the elections. Our thoughts and perceptions were true, and they became a concrete fact after this violation and depriving people from their own opinion, in addition to steal and bury their future. Kurdish Allied List has nominated a number of Yezidis within their lists for the new parliament in order to gain their votes, but what happened after election is that none of the Yezidis was mentioned within the lists of the Kurdish Allied List in the new parliament and Nineveh Governorate Council.
We strongly demand the international authorities, Human Rights representatives in the world, United Nations and supporters of threatened extinct people to return the extorted right to those who voted for Kurdish Allied List in Iraq and to uplift the unjust that affected them as a result of this deed which is considered a flagrant extortion of a complete community in broad daylight and depriving his natural and humanitarian rights which violate international charters of protecting religious and ethnic minorities.
This memorandum (originally in Arabic), will be translated in both English and French, and distributed to all international organizations that participated in the International Program of Human Rights in the summer of 2005, which are more than (150) Human Rights Organizations from (62) countries in the world under the auspices of Canadian Institute for Human Rights in Montréal / Canada, aiming at gathering the support and claiming a complaint in this regard to the international authorities that are concerned about Human Rights violations, especially the rights of religious minorities.
We direct this urgent call to Yezidi Civil Society Organizations inside/outside Iraq, political organizations and Yezidi educated and religious figures all over the world that are convinced of this issue, to gather support and confirmation in order to be an active tool against those who encroached upon our natural rights and extorted it with no right.
Let God grant the success.
With our respect to all.
