The Chaldean patriarch of the Sulaqa line, Shimun XIII Dinkha (1662–1700), who had been united with Rome, dissolved that union in 1672 and founded a new “mountain Nestorian” patri- archate at the monastery of Kotchannes, which lay west of Lake Urmiyah in the region of Hakkari in Kurdistan. Thus while the former “Chaldean” patriarchate ceased to exist in Mosul, it lived on in the “mountain Nestorian” patriarchate in Kurdistan. Shimun XIII Dinkha lived first in Khosrowa and beginning in 1672 in Kotchannes. After his move, he had no further contact with Rome. The East Syriac catholicate of today is the legal successor of the initially uniate patriarchate of the Sulaqa line! .
